What Can They Do To Help

A Sports Medicine Specialist has significant specialized training in both the treatment and prevention of illness and injury. The Sports Medicine Specialist helps patients maximize function and minimize disability and time away from sports, work, or school. Well trained in musculoskeletal medicine, Sports Medicine Specialists specialize in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Approximately 90% of all sports injuries are non-surgical...that is why non-operative treatment is often key to getting back to the field or workplace quicker. And if surgery or physical therapy is required, they can make accurate referrals to physical and occupational therapies or an orthopedic/sports surgeon.

I'm Not An Athlete
Can I Still See a Sports Medicine Specialist?

YES! Every person that moves is an athlete whether they realize it or not. Of course, not everyone runs track or plays football, but regardless, we all have different levels of activity we do each and every day. Sports Medicine Physicians are ideally suited to provide comprehensive medical care for the non-athlete as well, and are excellent resources for the individual who wishes to become active or begin an exercise program. Dr. Hammonds has a tremendous amount of experience treating patients who are suffering from all types of injuries.

I'm Not An Athlete

Dr. Heather Hammonds, M.D.

I specialize in non-surgical treatment and prevention of illness and injury to the musculoskeletal system. Injuries like ankle sprains, knee injuries, rotator cuff, tendonitis, stress fractures, and osteoarthritis can keep people from achieving their athletic and health goals. We treat these injuries with Arthrocentesis/Bursa Injections, Trigger Point Injections, Tendon Sheath Injections and many more treatments that offer non-surgical relief and healing.

In addition, I also specialize in treating non-musculoskeletal system aspects of sports medicine such as concussion, chronic or acute illness like mononucleosis, asthma or diabetes, and we offer injury prevention options and recommendations on safe strength training and conditioning exercises. I am passionate about what I do. I love to move and be active in my lifestyle and I understand the frustrations and limitations of injury.

At Restore Sports Medicine, our mission is to provide comprehensive, honest, and affordable healthcare. We seek to avoid unnecessary imaging, testing, and procedures, practice with integrity, and make it about the physician-patient relationship. Let me help you get back to doing what you love.
