Prolotherapy, also called proliferation therapy, is a type of regenerative orthopedic medicine (ROM) that stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms to strengthen and repair injured and painful joints and connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, or other structures). The treatment involves targeting the injection to the injured area with a safe substance that causes a small amount of local tissue irritation or inflammation. This “good inflammation” triggers the body’s natural repair processes to strengthen the existing tissue and to enhance the growth of new tissue/collagen. It has been shown to help patients with osteoarthritis, joint sprains and other sports injuries from accidents, degenerative disc disease, and other conditions that cause chronic pain or immobility. This technique is sometimes used in combination with PRP.
Scientific studies have demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of tendinopathy, ligament sprains, tennis elbow, joint laxity, plantar fasciosis and osteoarthritis. Click here to schedule an appointment.
